Praising God, Praising George Washington,
praising the Founding Fathers
Welcome to Washingtonism
The exalted George Washington. This image is called the Apotheosis of Washington, a mural in the ceiling of the U.S. Capitol. The only official image that glorifies the first President. The most beautiful image in the world, imo. The word "apotheosis" means to exalt on a divine level, so Washington is essentially being glorified as a divine figure. George Washington sits on the apex of a rainbow with a pink blanket over his lap, and angels surrounding him, as well as Roman gods and goddesses. In a video about the U.S. capital, a capital employee describes the Apotheosis, explaining that George Washington is exalted here as a deity.
What is Washingtonism about? Washingtonists worship George Washington as a religious figure -- we believe he was divine.

"The name of Washington is far above my praise. May that glory which encircles his head ever shine with undiminished rays."
--Luther Martin of Geo Washington, 18th century.
"He saw a Crown high above all human grandeur. He sought, he gained, and wore that Crown."
--Gouverneur Morris
